Avigail’s sculptural acrylic works translate the sensory language of nature into tactile landscapes that unfold between painting and object. Inspired by organic formations and seasonal palettes, her practice approaches nature as a visual reference and, at times, as a structural model for making, allowing gesture and material behavior to generate forms that feel simultaneously deliberate and emergent.
Working primarily with acrylic for its sculptural responsiveness and rapid drying properties, Avigail employs icing techniques, painter’s knives, and fine tools to construct stable acrylic bodies that project from or exist independently of the canvas. Gravity plays a decisive role in shaping contours, while visible traces of tools preserve the immediacy of gesture. Shadows cast on the wall become an extension of the work, reinforcing its spatial presence and hybrid identity across painting, relief, and sculpture.
At the core of the practice lies a deliberate negotiation between control and unpredictability. The repetitive act of icing—supported by prior experience with manual repair work—functions as a method of concentration and calm, even as the material resists perfect predictability. This dynamic produces a restrained form of chaos, where imperfect color transitions and layered accumulations generate nuanced ombré worlds.
Nature informs the palette, rhythm, and structural logic of the works without directing them toward narrative or metaphor. Instead, the pieces invite a sensory encounter grounded in texture and material presence. Through this tactile emphasis, Abigail seeks to evoke an imagined physical engagement in the viewer, activating a desire to touch while maintaining the integrity of the sculptural surface.
